Frequently Asked Questions

What materials can I use with the Ultimaker Print Core AA?

The AA core is intended for standard, non-abrasive build filaments such as PLA, ABS, PETG (CPE), Nylon, PP, TPU 95A, CPE+, PC, and Ultimaker Breakaway. It is not compatible with PVA or abrasive materials like carbon or glass-filled composites.

Can I use the AA print core with abrasive materials?

No. The AA core is not wear-resistant and should not be used with abrasive filaments. For those, use the Ultimaker CC core with hardened steel nozzles.

Which printers are compatible with the Ultimaker AA core?

The AA print core is compatible with Ultimaker S3, S5, S7, and Ultimaker 3 / 3 Extended series printers. It works seamlessly with dual extrusion setups when paired with BB or Breakaway support.

What’s the difference between the 0.25 mm, 0.4 mm, and 0.8 mm nozzle sizes?
  • 0.25 mm: Best for fine detail, small features, and thin walls. Slower print speeds.
  • 0.4 mm: The default size for most applications — offers a balance between speed and quality.
  • 0.8 mm: Ideal for high-speed printing, draft parts, and larger models with less detail.
How do I change a print core on my Ultimaker printer?

The print core can be swapped without tools. Your printer’s interface will guide you through the removal and insertion process. It automatically recognizes the core using the built-in chip.

Can I mix AA and BB cores in one print?

Yes. This is the standard method for dual-material prints using a build material (AA core) and support material (BB core with PVA). The printer lifts and lowers nozzles as needed for a clean, efficient workflow.
