MakerBot METHOD — Professional Desktop 3D Printer
Industrial-grade accuracy, materials flexibility, and a benchtop footprint — built for engineers, labs, and serious makers.
Overview
The MakerBot METHOD is a tinker-free professional 3D printer that brings manufacturing-grade performance to the desktop. A rigid metal frame, precision motion system, and an actively circulating heated chamber work together to deliver repeatable, dimensionally accurate parts from engineering-grade materials — ready for prototyping, tooling, or low-volume production.
Key Features
- Circulating Heated Chamber — An actively heated, circulating chamber provides a controlled thermal environment to reduce warping and improve inter-layer bonding for engineering plastics.
- Dual Performance Extruders — Modular extruders designed for higher torque and consistent filament feed enable both model and support materials (including soluble supports) for complex geometry printing.
- Dry-sealed Material Drawers — Built-in, moisture-controlled filament storage helps protect hygroscopic materials and keeps prints reliable.
- Smart Sensors & Monitoring — Numerous onboard sensors and a built-in camera give automated diagnostics and remote monitoring capabilities.
- Intuitive Touchscreen & Software — A full-color touchscreen for local control plus MakerBot’s workflow software for print preparation, management, and remote queuing.
- Open Material Platform & Composites — METHOD supports a wide range of filament types and has dedicated configurations (e.g., Carbon Fiber editions) for printing reinforced, engineering-grade composites.

Who Should Choose METHOD?
Choose METHOD when you need repeatable dimensional accuracy and the ability to print engineering materials without moving to a full industrial system. It's ideal for product engineers, lab environments, R&D teams, and educators needing reliable performance and broader material options.
Quick Tradeoffs
- Excellent for many engineering plastics — not intended to replace high-temperature industrial systems required for PEEK/ULTEM class materials.
- Dual-extrusion and specialty material setups may reduce usable build volume and add material costs.
- Premium performance comes with a higher upfront cost than hobby desktop machines, but saves time and rework for professional workflows.
FAQ
What temperatures does the METHOD chamber reach?
METHOD uses a circulating heated chamber designed to control the print environment for improved part accuracy and reduced warp. (See official MakerBot documentation for the specific configuration of the model you are considering.)
Can METHOD print engineering composites like carbon-fiber nylon?
Yes — MakerBot offers Carbon Fiber editions and recommended workflows for reinforced nylons and other composite materials. These editions are configured specifically for composite filament handling and higher wear tolerance.
Does METHOD support soluble supports for complex geometry?
METHOD’s dual-extrusion capability allows the use of support materials (including soluble supports) to make complex parts with minimal post-processing.
What software should I use with METHOD?
MakerBot provides workflow tools for print preparation and remote monitoring (MakerBot Print / cloud management). Always check compatibility notes in MakerBot’s software documentation for the latest file formats and features.
Is METHOD a good choice for classrooms?
METHOD is designed for professional results and reliability. For classroom deployments consider whether the advanced material capabilities and price point match the institution’s needs — MakerBot also offers education-focused products and bundles.
